'Learnin To Fly'

Last night the hubs and I dropped the kids off with my parents and drove down to Chula Vista for the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers concert. The show was originally scheduled for last Tuesday but Tom had a throat infection so they had to postpone it.

After sitting in stop and go traffic on the god awful 15/805 split, we finally got there. And all of our horrible traffic was suddenly worth it!

I stopped a security guy to ask him where to find the "will call window". He asks me, "Ticketmaster will call'? Hmmm, I had no idea where my tickets were but I didn't think they'd be with Ticketmaster so I say, "uhhhh" and he says, "Oh are they with artist will call? Did the band set some tickets aside for you?" Ohhh yeah, duh! "Yes" I say and he points us in the right direction... The hubs looks over at me with a very impressed look. I tell him, "see your wife is kind of a big deal, why don't you ever believe it"?  Of course he ignores me and heads to the bathroom.

I grab our tickets and my body starts dragging me to the right... I have no idea why until I stop and look up at the glorious sign that says, "Funnel Cake". Do you know how hard it was for me to tell myself "no funnel cake chunky buns, you are wearing skinny jeans and really shouldn't be, so funnel cake is a really bad idea!"

Once the hubs is out of the bathroom (no fair, not even a line for the guys bathroom), we try to find out seats. Now the tickets are so freakin confusing... Maybe it's because we are used to general admission shows (the last few shows I have been to were AFI, 100 Monkeys and Combichrist).  Anyway, I stop to ask a security guy how we get to our seats (clearly we don't get out much anymore). He says, "Oh you are all the way down here". We follow him and he sends us down a small aisle which walks right next to the stage (yes the stage).

Now I knew that we wouldn't be sitting on the lawn but I had no idea we would be sitting in the bands saved seats. Ahhhhh we were center and in the 10th row.... I could seriously see Tom's nose hairs!!! I'm totally lying, I couldn't see his nose hairs but we were sooo freaking close! It was awesome. I am pretty sure most of the people in our section were looking at us like "Who the hell are these tattooed freaks?" But who cares, it was AWESOME!!!

The show was amazing!!! I cannot thank Mike and Marcie Campbell enough for the tickets!!! Although I was a little disappointed that Mike didn't wear his famous converse on stage, his amazing guitar playing made me soon forget about his choice in footwear. They played an almost acoustic-like version of Learning To Fly which gave me goosebumps!!!

The crowd was awesome, we had a whole empty row in front of us which was amazing, and the weather was perfect! Enjoy the photos! I am going to go and try to remove the smell of weed from all of my clothes and hair (I have never seen people smoke so much weed in my life, I mean this guy next to us smoked from the beginning to the end... how is that possible?)!
