My Alter Animal

So if you were to guess my alter animal... I am sure you would choose something bright and cheery like a unicorn or a peacock right? I mean, I do have a sparkling personality so naturally you would choose an animal like one of those. Right? Right?????

Well apparently majority of my friends compare me to a creature of the night. Yes that's right. They compare me to a bat. The winged creature associated with sucking blood from people in the night. Wow, that was quite a blow to my ego. Hmmmm. I guess it started when my friends hubby made a comment about how he assumed that I slept hanging upside down in a cave. Which I thought was hilarious when I heard it. I mean, I like dark thinks, I have a very dark humor, horror movies, etc... but my house is kind of bright and cheery and I am not "goth" by any means.

I mean, I do love bats... Actually, I have been begging my tattoo artist Turk to make me a shadow box with a preserved bat inside (which my hubs thinks is a little strange), and I have been asking my hubs for about 8 years to build me a bat house. Bats eat all kind of yucky bugs and gross creepy crawlys that I don't want around my yard. I also have kind of accidentally started collecting bat stuffed animals over the years... I don't even really know how or when that started. I guess I sort of always root for the underdog. When all the other kids wanted the lion or tiger stuffed animal at the zoo gift shop, I wanted the bat or wombat...

But I never would have compared myself to a bat... If I had to choose, I would probably compare myself to a bear.... Kind of lazy, little bit grumpy when messed with, would love to hibernate, loves to eat, very protective over her loved ones, and large & in charge =)  but a bat????

So now it's kind of become this joke amongst my family and group of friends... My hubby thinks it's funny to turn out the lights & make a funny squeaky noise with his lips to call me in the house and the kids laugh hysterically. Or the other day, my 4 year old asks me, "Mom, who do you hang out with late at night?" and I say, "late at night? what do you mean? I'm sleeping late at night!" and she says, "no when you turn in to a bat"... Okay really???? Very funny, hahahah mama's a bat!!!!

So if you had to choose what kind of animal you are most like.... what would you choose and would the people you are closest with agree?
