Boogie Boogie Boo

So I've been going back and forth on whether I should write this... but I decided that this is my random ramblings so why not.

Yesterday at lunch,  I got a call from Boogie's teacher letting me know that she thinks that Boogie may need her eyes checked. She passed the school vision test a few months back so we never worried about it... Well I came home and asked around for my friends to recommend a local pediatric optometrist. That same day at 2pm we were in the optometry office getting Boogs' eyes checked (I'm totally not an alarmist).

Now this is where I struggled on whether I should write this or not... I am so very lucky to have healthy children when so many are not so fortunate! So I felt like it was stupid to get upset about my child may or may not needing glasses. But as a mother, no matter how small the issue, it's very sad to think that something may be wrong with your child.

Let me tell you, it was heartbreaking to see my little girl struggle with a line of letters and get scared because she could not see them. But as a parent, we remain strong for our littles to let them know that they will be okay!

So it turns out that she has an astigmatism in her right eye. Which she most likely got from her father who has one in his left eye. As of right now, she only needs to wear glasses to school and when she does her reading and homework at home.

Luckily Boogs is at an age where she is super excited for getting her glasses! She looks at it like a cool new hair bow or a necklace... Just another super cool accessory! and let me tell you that I am very thankful for that. You never want your child to feel "different".

Here is Boogs trying on  glasses...

and here are the glasses that we picked...

She cannot wait to pick them up next week!!!!

  3. What you are feeling seems totally normal. Thank goodness Boogs is so cool about it. These days I think glasses are actually cool. A far cry from the ol' huge aviators of the 70's. She looks great in them!

  4. Her glasses look cute! My seven-year-old son just got glasses (as did my 10 year old daughter). It stinks not to have perfect vision, but the styles these days are so cute. Some kids even wear fake glasses!
