My review on The Wolfman
Let me start this by saying that I was soooo excited to see The Wolfman... I love love love Benecio Del Toro and really, who doesn't love Anthony Hopkins? On top of this, I am quite a fan of lycanthropes!
Of course I didn't get to see it in the theater because I am a mother of two toddlers.... and I save my one theater movie a year for the Twilight Saga (shhh don't you judge me!). So when I got my On Demand booklet in the mail showing that The Wolfman was now playing, I was ecstatic...
So last night I get a text from a friend mentioning that I should come over and watch it on Thurs... Well I wasn't able to do that so I decided to get comfy and order the movie (Paul is going to kill me when he reads this.. He was downstairs and had no idea until now that I ordered a $4.99 movie. Actually he may not anyway because I don't think he has any idea that I even have a blog.)
Anyway, I grabbed my word search book (I cannot just watch a movie without doing something else ex. word search, scrapbook, facebook, etc.) and turned on the movie.
The first part of the movie was pretty entertaining... setting up for the main story... Benecio plays Lawrence, a Shakespearian actor who is touring in London close to his hometown... He hasn't keep in touch with his father since his father sent him to an insane asylum after seeing his mother's mysterious death as a child.
His future sister in law contacts him and tells him that his brother has been missing for a month and asks him to come home to help search for him.
Once home, he finds that his brother's body has been found and mauled by something... This leads him into searching for what or who has killed his brother...
The story goes on to explain the strange dynamic between Lawrence and his father (played by Sir Anthony Hopkins)... and introduces the concept that the local killings may be by werewolves...
The story is good, the cast is fabulous, and the effects are horrible!!! I really had high hopes for this movie when I first heard about it... I did find it strange that I hadn't heard much about the movie when it was in the theater (but then again, most of my friends are giant chickens). I was entertained but it's definitely not something to write home about... Glad I didn't waste my one theater night on this one!
