They trust us with everything that they have... they follow us in to battle, they search for wounded, and in my heart... they are also heroes of 9/11 That day, those dogs looked at their handlers with complete trust and waited for their tasks. They worked until beyond exhaustion without so much as a whine or grunt. Out of the 100 original 'first responder' dogs, only 12 are still alive today. You can now buy a book called Retrieved which commemorates these 12 heroic canines. They are truly amazing and I so wish that I was able to sit and listen to the stories that they had to tell.

this made me cry. i don't know if it's because they're so brave, or cause i love dogs so much, or cause i'm sad that only 12 are still alive (i have a hard time dealing with the fact that our pets don't live forever)... or cause of pms (see previous halloween comment about cupcakes). anyway, great pics, thanks for sharing.
