My Daughter's New Friend

Last week Boogs came running into the living room to tell us about a huuuge bird that was sitting on our backyard fence. We went to go see what she was talking about and we saw a beautiful large hawk. We thought it was a little strange since it was pouring outside and that he chose our fence since we live in a neighborhood where the houses are pretty close together.. It just didn't seem like a place that a hawk would want to hang out...

So of course the rescuer part of me was worried that maybe he was hurt... In the mean time, the hubs is yelling at me to get my camera... By the time I actually get to my camera, changed my lens, get back over to the window, adjust my settings, and position myself.... the hawk is already on his way... The hubs was clearly irritated that I had taken my sweet time.

Boogs said, "maybe he'll come back". I told her, "I really don't think he'll come back honey."

Well yesterday we were having a lazy day and Boogs comes running in telling us about the big bird again, and the hubs says something to the effect of "surre he's back". Well sure as shi*% the hawk is back... I think that he really likes Boogs... He had come back to visit her again. This time I ran to get my camera and changed the lens quicker and we managed to get a couple of good pictures of him. He is beautiful!!!

A friend of ours works at the Wild Animal Park with the birds of prey and told us that it's a Red Shouldered Hawk and that we need to be careful of our dove family that comes in the Spring because Mr. Hawk will eat them. *yikes*

Anyway, here is Mr./Mrs. Hawk. We don't know what the sex is. Boogs has decided to name it Rainbow. She is on a Rainbow kick and naming everything Rainbow right now.

  1. BARK! Thanks for stopping by my blog. We are really close. Mommy used to live in Riverside. That is where her and daddy got married too.
There was a hawk in my territory too. It used to swoop down close to me, then saw that I was a BIG dog and nothing to mess with.
    BARK! Sasha the Princess
